EUROPEAN CITY OF CULTURE 2020.
DUBLIN IS APPLYING TO BECOME EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE
Wouldn’t that be fab? It would be such a great boost for the city. We’ve had it rough since 2008. This would be a great time to show Angela Merkel and the money monsters what we’re made of.
WHY WOULD DUBLIN MAKE A GREAT EUROPEAN CITY OF CULTURE?
- We’re a friendly city. Some of us moan that Dublin’s too big, too anonymous but visitors are astonished at how warm we are, how we’re prepared to chat to people we don’t know and offer help.
- We know how to enjoy ourselves. Even when we have no money, we can entertain ourselves with our witty words and hilarious comments.
- We’ve been trading with Europe since Adam was in the Highlanders so we know how to give our European friends a great Céad Míle Fáilte.
- And as for Culture… sure we’re crawlin’ with it! And not just James Joyce and the literary heavy gang, not just the city centre with it’s theatre, music, spoken word, film, dance and whatever you’re having yourself. Look to the suburbs and you’ll find all kinds of local and community festivals , support groups, clubs, sports, choirs, dance crews, resident associations, video artists, bloggers, computer geeks, Youtube freaks, libraries, theatres film makers, animators, boy scouts, girl guides, sailing clubs…. the list is endless.
Jaykers….! The more I think about it, the more certain I am that Dublin should definitely be EUROPEAN CITY OF CULTURE 2020.
Come on you Dubs. We’ve just won the Sam Maguire Cup… lets win EUROPEAN CITY OF CULTURE 2020. So keep smiling. Keep chatting to strangers. Keep lending a hand. Keep having a laugh.
