WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE.

I know this looks like I let a drunk orangutan loose on the site … sadly it was me. I’m still finding my way.

I still have a  huge amount of things to do on this site but  I’ll get there.   I am thrilled that I’ve got this far.   Let me revel in some  self-congratulation for a bit.

All the photos on my site were taken by Bernard O’Kelly unless otherwise stated.

Hello, I am an Audiology Grad Student at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, U.S. and we are planning a trip to Zambia for this coming May, 2013. I was wondering if we could correspond through email so we could ask you a few questions about your experience?
    Thanks,

Currently it seems like Expression Engine is the preferred blogging platform out there right now.
(from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using on
    your blog?

Totally emphasise Catherine. In same boat but we must persevere. If you are publishing on Amazon, you must check out Smashwords. Fantastic. Very user friendly provided you read their free style guide first. For paperback versions of your work, have a look at Grosvenor House Publishing. I have used them, very professional and competitively priced. Book covers, I get mine from istock and use Photo Elements to apply text. Beginner at this but check out the results on my website. If I can do it anyone can. Read Karen Lotter’s blog Wednesday, there’s a little piece I wrote about my self publishing experiences on there. Good luck and keep going! Warren, aka W R Armstrong.

If you are reading this Michael….. I have looked for you too. Catherine, if you are reading this – your website just peaked!

Where are you Michael…how are your daughters….what are you doing, thinking, working on?
I live in Hebden Bridge and am flying to Dublin in April for the first time in years, to stay with a friend in Tipperary for a few days. I think I am going to be devastated on the way home. The old roots are stronger than ever and how they tug!

      [email protected] will reach me.

Catherine, I’m looking forward to your session at the Northlands Storytelling Conference in April. I’ve been cast as the Toymaker who tells stories to children at the Bristol Renaissance Faire by way of introduction to a puppet on stilts. The director has suggested I might use stories such as the Wonderful Toymaker, Elves and the Shoemaker, Princess and the Pea. Each needs some work on my part to make them work as a Renaissance story for the faire. For starters I’m interested in spicy up and lengthening the Elves and the Shoemaker story. Any suggestions you may have before the conference would be most welcome.
    Thank you,
    Paul

Hi Paul, it will be fun to meet in Northlands. I’m in the throes of getting ready to go to Zambia where I’m hoping to set up a screening programme for hearing so a bit up to the tonsils at the moment.
However but one thing that usually works for me is to go through the story as is and pin-point the practical, everyday questions that would arise if this were reality e.g. what exactly is the motivation of the elves? When you explore these a bit you’ll usually find something that helps pump the story up. Love Catherine

        Catherine,
Thank you so much. My adaptation as told at M.A.S.T. (Milwaukee Area Story Tellers) last evening was met with much positive response. I introduced the story by citing several kinds of small fairy folk. The elves were described as “helper fairies” which led to asking the listeners to be helpers with the story. Doorbell ringer, snorers, a tap, tap tapper, “whisperers like the wind” and “dance with joy” listeners. The group loved the technique and told me this would be a great way to involve the children at the Bristol Renaissance Faire this summer. I had not thought about your “what motivates the character”, elves in this case, to do what they are doing but I believe identifying them as “helper fairies” is a good start. As there is a bit of time before the faire I will look at the story again for what motivates the elves. Thank you for the wake up call about motivation as it has been a long time since I’ve participated in theater and I do know that discovery of what moves a character is important. May all go well with the screening program in Zambia. Best regards, Paul

    Hi there

I just checked out your website catherinebrophy.ie and your site takes longer than 3 seconds to load 😦

If your site takes so Long Time To Load you are losing more than half your traffic & 50% of visitors won’t return if they have trouble loading a page…

That’s a really expensive mistake to make, specially if you are paying for traffic. I can help you to improve that.

Please contact me by my email for details: [email protected]

    Regards,
